  • PDA Pics: Cute or Tacky?

A friend of mine, Jay, was just complaining the other day about the small things his girlfriend does that annoys him. He hates PDA, and more than PDA, he hates taking pictures of PDA. His girlfriend really likes to take pictures of them kissing and put them on Facebook as her profile picture, or just on Facebook in general. He couldn't really explain why it annoyed him so much, but he just thought it was tacky and unnecessary.

One of my girl friends is always complaining when someone from our high school posts pictures of them and their SO kissing on Facebook. She said it just seems really braggy, almost like they're flaunting their relationship in front of everyone. I guess I can kind of see that viewpoint. I have on the other hand seen some really cute pictures of couples kissing on my Facebook feed every now and then. Sometimes there is a sloppy make out pic thrown in but for the most part, never anything too bad. I personally am not a huge fan of PDA and neither is my boyfriend, so I don't really take pictures of us kissing.

I can sort of see the logic in both arguments. I have seen some pretty unnecessary making out photos of couples on Facebook. But also, if you're happy in a relationship and you want to share how happy you are, why not post a picture of how happy you are? I can see it being annoying if a single person consistently saw pictures of couples kissing on their news feed and I think that's my girl friend's main problem with it.

Pictures of couples kissing, is it cute or is it a bit much to put on Facebook? Do you and your SO post pictures of the two of you kissing on Facebook or do you just keep them in your phone?

  • Facebook PDA of any sort is really childish IMO. Every once and a while a : "You're great!" or "My girlfriend makes the best cookies in the world." isn't that bad. I'm talking about wall to wall conversations of "I love you forever, you're my shining star, I can't wait to see you in three hours!" yick. I like cute kissy photos. I would cherish any I have-- BUT I wouldn't like to see them on facebook-- cause it's not just your good friends who see it, but the world at large. And it's a large world... in which we don't know most of the people in it.

  • I think kissing photos are cute. I've always wanted to take one. I would put a kissing photo as my profile picture. Sure, people are going to judge me, but people are going to judge me no matter what I do. Besides, a kissing photo means "he's taken, back off."

  • I put up one, once of my boyfriend and I kissing (not making out or sloppy) on Valentines day when we were living across the country from one another. I have a few pics of us kissing, but we just have them on our computers.

  • It annoys me when people post pictures of themselves kissing. Like anyone actually wants to see that! I've decided that I will never do that, out of courtesy for the single people.

  • yeah, pda means you're putting your life on show and tell. no one asked, and no one was curious. id be okay with pda pics like that for my iphone so I can look back on it fondly by myself, but I sure as hell wouldn't post it all around everywhere for everyone to see.

  • To each his own. I don't post pictures of my boyfriend and I kissing because I've never been a fan of PDA in general.

  • pda, including kissy pics on facebook, strikes me as being all for show.  "look at me, we kiss!", just... no.  It strikes me as being too much of an act, like they're overcompensating for something.  Just my opinion.

  • Well, they can be cute, but posting a lot of pics gets really, really annoying especially those who like to take extreme close ups.

  • I'm not much of a PDA fan in general, so I'm a bit annoyed by those sorts of pictures on Facebook.

  • I think they're super cute personally. What's wrong with being happy and in love and wanting to share it with the world? That's like telling happy people to stop vocalizing when they're happy, just because there are people out there who aren't.

  • Definitely tacky. Keeping it in phone or for personal couples video (like 6 month anniversary gift) sure but posting them  excessively on Facebook is super annoying.
