  • Before You Do That, Take a Moment

No regrets, right? Ehhh... it's not always that way. I love to live my life to fullest, live every day like my last, yada yada, however, there are some things I have done, and a day later I think, "Why? Ughhh! I could have handled that so much better! If only, I would have taken a moment to stop and think about it."

We have all made at least one irrational decision at some point. I'm willing to bet more than half of us have wished we didn't make that irrational decision. Personally, the after-shock is what I usually dread. I've become better at making decisions and thinking before I act, but this has come from making the mistakes in the first place. In the words of, Alanis Morisette "You live, you learn."

After what I have learned in my twenty-two years of living, I can vouch that my life is much better when I think before I act. Typically, my thinking is rational. Most of my irrational decisions have been made when I am lacking sleep, sick, upset, or I have a dramatic situation sprung on me. Sometimes it's a mix of all of them.

I now have a list of simple things I ask myself before making a decision about what I should/shouldn't say/do.  Continue reading

  • Will He Notice the Weight?

I was texting my friend, Miriam*, this morning when we got on the subject of weight.
I joked about how much weight I have gained this summer after countless late night fast food runs with my friends after going out. I told her how I may or may not have ripped a skirt that used to fit when I sat down at work the other day. I told her I never really liked the skirt though, so it was okay. We joked at how people might not even be able to recognize us once we returned to campus. We sent countless virtual "hahahahahaha's" back and fourth as I snickered and tried not to disturb the people in my office. I liked how Miriam and I could laugh about this type of stuff.

The mood shifted quite suddenly when we got to the subject of returning to campus. Miriam brought up her boyfriend who has been abroad for the whole summer. She is extremely excited to see him when we go back to school in a month but at the same time, kind of hesitant. "Wait what if he actually doesn't recognize me..?" Continue reading

  • Should I Let Him Buy Me a Drink?

For my 21st birthday, I gathered a group of friends and went out to one of the best clubs around. At one point during the night, I was approached by a totally cute, totally hammered guy. “What are you drinking?” he asked. I told him. He then asked if he could try it. In a matter of seconds, the stubble-bearded stranger had downed the rest of my Apple Pucker and Sprite. Without thinking, I flirtatiously sputtered out, “So, you’re gonna buy me another drink, right?” Continue reading

  • Being Close With Family

After three years of dating, Andrew has spent plenty of time with my family. While I do roll my eyes from time to time when he hangs out with my dad, or gangs up on me with my sister, I am actually glad he gets along so well with my family.  Continue reading

  • 40 Days of Dating

"What do you do when you're tired of the prospect of dating?"

Recently, a friend showed me http://fortydaysofdating.com. Basically two friends, both artists, who happen to be single at the same time, decided to date each other for 40 days and document the experiment. The experiment basically answers the question, "What happens when two people with polar opposite relationship philosophies date?" What results is an interesting look into the lives of these two people, as you see the ups and downs of a relationship from both sides. After every date, they fill out a questionnaire that recounts the details of their date and explains how both are feeling about themselves, about each other, and about the experiment.

  • Strip Clubs: The New Dating Tactic?

Several weeks ago, my friend, Sara*, and her coworker were discussing their plans for the upcoming weekend. Sara went first saying she'd probably have dinner with some friends and then go out after. Her coworker seemed really excited about her weekend. Her plans were somewhat different from Sara's. Although her coworker did intend to go out as well, her destination caught Sara a little off guard. She was going to the strip club.  Continue reading

  • Guys and Gals Who Obsess About Guys and Gals

So there was once this guy who threw up rainbows and birds flew around him whistling songs of summer love. Every time I saw him, it rained candy from heaven. Right up until something... err, someone... got in the way. You see, said boy was in love with a girl who would never have him. That girl was obviously not me.  Continue reading

  • It Means He's Good With His Tongue...

My friends and I all went out on Saturday for a little girls night out a couple of towns over. At the first bar we went to, my friend spotted this group of good looking guys sitting a couple feet away from us. They were all really sweet, bought us drinks all night, and had us laughing for hours. One of the guys bought my friend a mixed drink that had a bunch of fruit at the bottom (it was sort of like a Sex on The Beach with a lot of tequila added in). At the bottom of the drink there were 2 maraschino cherries, my favorite!

I ate the cherries, my friend hates cherries, and put them stems on a napkin next to the drink. One of the guys, Logan, picked the stem up and twirled it between his fingers. My friend Kayla asked him if he could tie the stem in a knot. He smiled, put them stem in his mouth, and (i'm not even exaggerating how fast this was) maybe about 30 seconds later, he reached into his mouth and pulled the stem out, with a perfect knot tied in it.

  • Do I Spoil Guys?

This might sound odd, but my friend Dana* thinks she's too nice to guys. She thinks she spoils them. The kind of guy she is immediately drawn to is not necessarily the typical All-American guy. Instead, he is sweet, shy, and maybe even a little self-conscious.  Continue reading

  • Bodybuilding Became His Mistress

Five or so years ago, I dated this really sweet guy named Joey. He was sensitive, caring, and considerate, and at the time, I assumed we’d be together for the long haul. But then, out of nowhere, something within him snapped. He cut his long, black, curly hair, he bought some equipment and supplements, and he became completely obsessed with bodybuilding. Continue reading
